Walter Mets,

born in Belgium,

has been a  professional musician since ‘81

(recording sessions with Plastic Bertrand, Telex, Scooter…)

He lived in London and worked with

Mannfred Mann Band,

Jeff Wayne (“producer War of the worlds”),

BBC radio and TV.

He toured the London club circuit with Glass Museum

and later with his own band Sansavana,

with Tim Wheater (flute) and Beverly Craven (keyboards).

After his return to Belgium, he toured Belgium, Holland, America and Africa as drummer with The Radios,

Soulsister http://www.soulsister.be/nieuws ( support act Sting on his European tour),

and Clouseau (in Benelux and Germany).

Apart from this he was active as session and live musician for

such international artists as

Tom Robinson,

Katrina from the waves,

Adamo,

Indochine,

Aereda (ft Branford Marsalis),

Toots Tielemans,…

And as leader of his television band he worked with

Black,

Spandau Ballet,

Leo Sayer,

Johnny Logan,

the Passadenas,…

 

In 2002 he atributed to the eurovision songcontest in Tallin, Estonia as drummer with Sergio and the ladies.

All along Walter has had a special love for world music.

During his stays in Africa,

he was introduced to musicians in Congo

and the national ballet of Senegal,

from whom he learned the basics of African percussion.

He played at Youssou N’Dour’s annual ‘festival of the African child’

at the stadium of Dakar and visited the isle of Gorée,

home to Doudou N’Diay Rose.

The colaboration with Rifi Kythouka (Congo) resulted in forming his own band Sansavana, with Beverly Craven, Dave Foster (ex-Style Coucil) and Tim Wheater (ex-Eurythmics).

Sansavana released 3 CD’s on the London KDF label.
